Amazon.com's secret salesman
What an unusual marketing tactic by amazon.com to sell more shoes and skirts! Amazon.com is going to show 5 short films over the next 5 weeks on its website. The first short film named "Portrait" starring Minnie Driver is already up.
Why would the biggest online retailer show short films to its visitors? Amazon.com says the short films are a vacation gift for their 44 million + customers. Customers can come to amazon.com for their vacation shopping and be entertained by these short films.
And there in lies the magic. Magic of under the radar marketing. These movies work as secret salesmen for amazon.com
After the "The End", Amazon.com shoppers can click on a link in the credits to buy products that characters wore or used in the short film. Everything from skirts to cell phones.
And thats not all, viewers can also go to the celebrity holiday pages. Customers can check out Minnie Driver's holiday page and buy what she recommends.
By showing 1 movie every week for the next 5 weeks, amazon.com gives one more reason to shoppers to come visit amazon.com. And when people visit the website to view the short films, they'll find themselves buying products that were placed in the short films!
Its entertaining marketing at its best.
