Marketing with Props

A friend sent me the above picture by email. Isn't that funny? By using out-of-the-ordinary stools, the restaurant owner is getting people to come and pose on the stools. And when they pose, they end up buying a drink or two.
The restaurant owner can easily make his restaurant a tourist location with the help of these funny stools. In fact, any one can make their shop the talk-of-the-town and a tourist spot - by using props effectively.
It reminds me of the props I saw during my trip to Belgium last year. A statue of a boy pissing called the "Mannekin Pis" is a famous tourist spot in Belgium. The statue is quite small, and seemed like a let down when I first saw it. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary and I wondered why it had become a magnet for tourists...

Well, anyways, one store located close to the Mannekin Pis, uses props to get tourists to enter their store. They use a cardboard cut out of the Mannekin Pis, with a big hole in place of the boy's face. Tourists could stand behind the cardboard prop so that their faces can be seen through the hole, and take pictures.
You should have seen the number of people this prop attracts. And many people who pose with this prop, also entered the store and made a few purchases. This store did better than all the other stores in the neighbourhood, just because they used a prop to attract people.

Action Summary:
- Use props to attract people to your store. You could use cardboard cut outs of famous actors and politicians. Or fancy chairs. Or make a miniature sculpture of the famous local tourist attraction with which people can pose with. And your store will become a local tourist attraction too.
- You could also keep a polaroid camera at the store. And can take pictures of tourists yourself. You could then sell these pictures. Or give it away for free if the tourist buys a product from your store.
