Chicago is a very tourist friendly city. They have free trolleys that transport people from one tourist location to another. They give away very good maps to people on all street corners.They have various modes of transport: underground rail, buses, London-style double decker open buses, cabs, free trolleys!
As a result, people can make their own plans and tour Chicago on their own... without needing a guide. Intercity tourism would lag a bit. So whats a travel and tourism company to do?
Why provide an experience to people that they can't find anywhere else, ofcourse!
On my last day at Chicago, I saw a fire truck roaring by the roads. But it wasn't going to quench some fires. No. Instead, it had tourists sitting on top of it. It was a fire truck tour of Chicago!
What a novel idea. I missed taking the picture of the fire truck that time, but did some little googling, and found O'Leary's Fire Tours!
Isn't that a super idea for a intercity tour?
Another tour I'd heard about a few weeks back was: Segway tours! Instead of taking you through the city in some boring bus, you can ride a Segway and enjoy the touristy locations!
Action Summary:
- Do something out of the ordinary. Provide an experience to people that they can't have on their own. That they can't get from your competition.
- Repackage your product or service.
